Bourbon Trail Daily Itinerary is a daily itinerary guide for visiting distilleries
along with the Kentucky points of interest found in the same area!
Creating these itineraries requires a significant amount of time and effort,
so I really hope they assist you in your planning process.Bourbon Trail Daily Itinerary: Louisville

  • The distilleries are grouped together based on their opening days and locations, as they may vary.
  • While some are open every day of the week, others have specific closed days.
  • With a wide range of tours, tastings, classes, and events offered, we recommend checking out each distillery’s website to explore their unique offerings and choose what interests you. Make sure to also leave time for shopping at their stores.
  • Tour lengths can range from 30 minutes to 4 hours for special events, so take into account how much time you want to spend at each location along with driving and mealtimes.
  • Once you’ve made your reservations, you’re all set for a memorable distillery experience!

Bourbon Trail Daily Itinerary:
We began by settling down in Louisville overnight, using it as our home base.

The following itinerary plans provide options for up to nine days of exploring what Kentucky has to offer.

MITCHER’S FORT NELSON DISTILLERY TOUR & TASTING

Take some time to walk around downtown Louisville.
There are beautiful murals painted on walls throughout the town,
unusual buildings, stores, restaurants, just a lovely downtown area.

Why not take a stroll across the bridge into Indiana during the late afternoon?

EVAN WILLIAMS DISTILLERY

Open: 7 days/week with a variety of tours available.
Hours: Monday – Thursday: 11am – 5pm, Friday & Saturday: 10am – 5pm and Sunday: 1pm – 5pm

CHURCHILL DOWNS RACETRACK 
700 Central Ave, Louisville, KY (Only 15 minutes out of Louisville)

Guided Track Visit Times (Included with museum ticket.)
Daily, half past every hour, lasts approximately 25 minutes.
Open: Monday – Saturday: 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. and Sunday: 11:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
A variety of other tours are also available.

MAKER’S MARK DISTILLERY at STAR HILL FARMS
(1 ¼ hour south of Louisville)
3350 Burks Spring Rd, Loretto, KY
Open: 7 days/week 9:30am – 5pm. The last tour is at 3:30pm.
Check out their website for some very unique tours.

LUNCH: TALBOTT’S TAVERN
107 W. Stephen Foster Ave., Bardstown, KY
Open: Sunday – Thursday: 11:00am – 8:00pm and Friday – Saturday: 11:00am – 9pm
This Historic Tavern opened in the 1700’s.

Bardstown is a lovely little historical town to walk around and take in the historical nature of the town.
There’s an original drug store with a luncheon counter still serving food you might enjoy as an alternative to Talbott’s Tavern.
 

HEAVEN HILL DISTILLERY 
1311 Gilkey Run Rd, Bardstown, KY
Open: 7 days/week. Monday – Saturday: 9:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. and Sunday: 1:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.

A variety of specialized tastings are available.
No tours are available but you can create your own self guided tour of their lobby which you will find well worth the time.
There are several very informative displays documenting the history of Heaven Hill and their production of bourbon.
Afterward, head upstairs to sample some of their product at the bar.

JIM BEAM STILLHOUSE 
568 Happy Hollow Rd., Clermont, KY
Open: Wednesday – Sunday with a variety of tours available.
Closed: Monday & Tuesday.

LUNCH: KITCHEN TABLE RESTAURANT
Open: Wednesday – Saturday: 11am – 5pm and Sunday: 11am – 4pm

Just keep in mind that they are located in a different time zone (CST).

GREEN RIVER DISTILLERY
(2 hours west of Louisville)
Kentucky’s 10th oldest distillery.

Open: Mon-Fri: 9am to 4:30pm and Sat: 9am to 3:30pm (CST)
Closed: Sunday
Tours and tastings available and a cocktail class

THE BARD DISTILLERY
A Craft Distillery (1 hour south of Green River Distillery)
5080 Hwy. 175 South, Graham, KY
Open: Thursday – Sunday: 10am – 5pm
Closed: Monday – Wednesday

BOUNDARY OAK DISTILLERY
A Craft Distillery (2 ½ hour drive from Bard or 1 ½ hours from Green River)

Bourbon Trail Daily Itinerary: for a Day Without A DISTILLERY (or maybe just one distillery)

Take this day trip and experience the time difference as you travel from CST to EST,
gaining an hour on your way there but then losing it on the way back.
And if you’re looking for a change of pace from visiting distilleries,
we have some fantastic alternative sites in store for you.
Although the drive may be longer, it’s also incredibly peaceful and offers stunning scenic views.

NATIONAL CORVETTE MUSEUM
(CST, not EST 1 hr. 45 min. SW of Louisville)

Open: Monday-Friday 10:00 AM-5:00 PM and Saturday & Sunday 9:00 AM-5:00 PM
Closed: Tuesdays in January and February
Tours available. Museum tours, Plant tours, and combo tickets for both.

LUNCH: STINGRAY GRILL
Open: 10:00 am – 3:00 pm

MAMMOTH CAVE
(only 30 minutes NE from the Corvette Museum)
1 Mammoth Cave Parkway, Mammoth Cave, KY
Open: 7 days/week. Hours vary according to the season.
Several different tours are available. Check their website.

Just a short distance away from the usual route,
we made a quick stop at Lincoln’s birthplace before heading to the Corvette Museum.
And on our way back to Louisville, we swung by Lincoln’s boyhood home as well.
Located just a few miles from the main road.

Bourbon Trail Daily Itinerary: Leaving Louisville
In the next leg of our journey, we had the pleasure of staying for two nights in Versailles, Kentucky.

This brought us even closer to a cluster of distilleries and other attractions that were on our must-visit list.

These plans consist of 3 days in this region.
However, don’t worry as these itineraries can still be easily accessed from Louisville –
just keep in mind it may take a bit longer on the road!

Such a gorgeous race track with a variety of dining options available.

TOWN BRANCH DISTILLERY

DANVILLE, KY
This is the birthplace of Kentucky – where everything began. In order to establish Kentucky as a state, constitutional conventions took place at the Danville courthouse. And in 1792, all that hard work paid off when Kentucky officially became the 15th state. You can still visit Constitution Square in the downtown area today, where those important conventions were held, and you’ll also find some buildings of historic interest. Take a few minutes to walk around and experience history.

PERRYVILLE
Only a short 15-minute drive north of Danville, lies the historic location of a crucial Civil War battle that marked a major turning point in Kentucky.

The drive is approximately one hour back to Lexington/40 minutes back to Versailles.

WILD TURKEY DISTILLERYTemporarily Closed
1525 Tyrone Rd, Lawrenceburg, KY
As of January 2024 there are no tours or tastings are available. The visitor center is being updated. There is a pop-up store if you want to shop for Wild Turkey. But do check their website for an opening date.
